Honoring the Extraordinary Contributions of Ordinary Women

The Abha Surgy Anyatama Awards is a noble initiative dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable contributions of women across diverse professions by Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra and Dr. Konkon Mitra to celebrate 30 Years of Abha Surgy Centre. This prestigious event is a tribute to the resilience, leadership, and the indomitable spirit of women who have made a significant impact in their respective fields, often breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks. Abha Surgy Centre, embarked on its mission 30 years ago with a clear vision: to provide world-class, affordable IVF treatment to those in need.

The Anyatama Awards, held at Taj Bengal, Kolkata was an evening of great inspiration, as we honoured four inspiring women who exemplifies courage, innovation, and leadership.

Sociopreneur, Founder- Nanighar

The Stirring Journey of Ms. Debjani Mukherjee Sociopreneur & Founder -Nanighar

Amid modern work demands and reliance on ready-to-eat meals, Ms. Debjani Mukherjee’s initiative -Nanighar, a Kolkata-based food app, not only preserves health, diet, and tastes but also strives to empower the very talented housewives and ‘mom-chefs’, a workforce that is quite underutilized. This unique startup helps women earn from their homes by cooking home-made food and reinvents traditional lost recipes.

Inspiring Impact

Focused on women’s empowerment, Ms. Debjani Mukherjee’s initiative -Nanighar is helping many homemakers achieve their long-cherished dream of becoming successful entrepreneurs and attaining financial independence, transforming their lives. So far, 500+ women have been empowered through skill development and entrepreneurship programs through this noble initiative.

Female Bus Driver

The Pioneering Journey of Ms. Pratima Poddar Female Bus Driver

Ms. Pratima Poddar is the first female bus driver of Kolkata, defying gender stereotypes. Initially, she worked as a conductor, before stepping up to drive buses after her husband’s accident.

A role model for women in a traditionally male-dominated profession, contributing to changing perceptions and empowering women in Kolkata’s public transport sector.

Bengal’s First Woman Cremator.

Breaking Barriers – The Story of Ms. Tumpa Das Bengal’s First Woman Cremator

Ms. Tumpa Das, the First Female Dom of West Bengal, took up the job of a Cremator at a very young age of 19 years. Following the footsteps of her maternal grandfather, mother and father, Tumpa, a trained nurse took up this job after she lost her father.

Inspiring Impact

At the young age of 19, Tumpa began her extraordinary journey, and now at 29, she has performed the last rites for over 5,000 people.

India’s First Female Aviation Fire Fighter

A Pioneer in Aviation Safety-Ms Taniya Sanyal India’s First Female Aviation Fire Fighter

Born into a Bengali middle-class family with a rich cultural background, Taniya Sanyal was inspired by her grandmother to follow her passion, as she strongly desired to serve the nation. Ms Taniya Sanyal embarked on a journey of determination & breaking barriers, way back in 2018, when she made history by joining AAI as India’s first female aviation firefighter and later became AAI’s first female trainer at the Fire Service Training Center in Kolkata.

Inspiring Impact

Ms Taniya Sanyal is the only woman amongs 100+ men at the Delhi Fire Training Center, who underwent an intense 5-month training in aviation fire-fighting and received equal treatment from trainers along with strong support from her peers. She is a torch bearer for women in a male-dominated profession.
